Vitamin B2: In our bodies, the intestinal flora (good bacteria) is responsible for the production of this vitamin. Amino acids, fatty acids and carbohydrates are metabolized by Vitamin B2. Skin, hair and nails all benefit from this vitamin. A deficiency can easily lead to hair loss, as well as brittle nails and acne. Ensure that Vitamin B2 is part of your daily multivitamin.
Vitamin B6: B6 is actually responsible, in part, for preventing hair loss, and it also plays a role in developing melatonin, which gives our skin and hair its color. Liver, grains, cereals, vegetables, meat and egg yolks are all rich in Vitamin B6. 1.6 mg per day is recommended for optimum health. Red blood cells, and all cellular growth, are enhanced by proper levels of B6. Hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to our cells and tissues, also relies on proper levels of B6.
Vitamin B3: When it is used in combination with biotin, B3 is much more effective. This vitamin reduces cholesterol, which can turn into DHT (responsible for some forms of hair loss) on the scalp.
Vitamin C: Another very powerful antioxidant, Vitamin C helps the body in many ways. 60 mg per day is recommended, although it's always best to ask a doctor. Citrus fruit, kiwi, pineapple, tomato, green pepper, potatoes and green peppers are all excellent sources of this essential vitamin.
Vitamin E: Found in soybeans, dried bean and green vegetables, Vitamin E is a natural healer. It's particularly helpful in hair growth, keeping hair soft and increasing blood flow to the scalp. 400 IU is the recommended daily amount of Vitamin E.
